An inadvertent expat blogger behind Gentle Field Span

Hi, I'm Sophia
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent and an expat living in Luzern, Switzerland.
Several years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Switzerland wasn't in the plans for the distant future. Like many expat relocations, it started with a job opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks felt more intricate than they should.
The Adjustment Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Created Gentle Field Span
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family insight.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Offers (And What It Does Not)
This site IS:
- Hands-on insights from living in Switzerland
- Emphasizing family life and everyday experience
- Updated when real changes occur
This site ISN'T:
- A tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just a generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Switzerland goes on, and so does learning. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue sharing what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Luzern or anywhere in Switzerland, feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophia
